Glacier tour UNESCO - from the Lötschental to Fiescheralp

A glacier tour in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau - Aletsch is an absolute MUST DO. The glacier melt is a fact, but we still have the opportunity to visit our ice giants. From Fafleralp in the Lötschental we hike via Hollandia and Konkordia hut to the Fiescheralp - three glaciers in three days. Nowhere else does one feel so small as in the middle of the Konkordiaplace. Something you should definitely have experienced if you are fascinated by glaciers.

Day 1: Ascent to the Hollandia hut 3154m

We meet at the Fafleralp and start our three-day tour in the green Lötschental. Our hike first follows the trail to the Anen hut before we then turn off towards the glacier. From the lush pastures in the Lötschental we soon reach the rocky terrain and further on then the glacier. Step by step we approach the Lötschenlücke. Once at the top, it is not long before we are standing in front of the Hollandia hut. The ascent to the Hollandia hut is not extremely steep, but very persistent and tough. A good physical condition is mandatory.

Day 2: Hike over the Grosser Aletschfirn to the Konkordia hut 2850m

Early in the morning we enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the Grünhornlücke. With crampons and on the rope we start hiking towards Konkordiaplatz. Our mountain guide finds a safe way around the crevasses - a real crevasse labyrinth. We approach the huge glacier area where four different glaciers flow together and then become the Great Aletsch Glacier. At the Konkordiaplatz, vastness takes on a whole new meaning. It is absolutely magnificent to be allowed to move in this unique glacier world. We climb the metal stairs to the Konkordia hut and enjoy the sunset over the Lötschenlücke. We can see our route from today the whole evening.

Day 3: Hike over the Aletsch Glacier to Fiescheralp

We wake up early the next morning, eat breakfast, and prepare for the day. Leave the hut to the south and take the mountain path to the glacier. Hike along the middle moraine to the point where the enormous glacier slopes off to the right. Here we will leave the ice and continue along the alpine trail, where a quick glance back brings us our entire hiking path from the Jungfraujoch into view. The last part of the hike leads us along the Märjelesee and over blooming alpine pastures to Fiescheralp. Have lunch from your backpack, or from the sun terrace of Hotel Alpina, before descending by cable car to Fiesch at around 2pm. Journey home by way of Interlaken Ost in the late afternoon (arrival at around 5pm).
