Day 2: The Traverse
Very early in the morning, we leave the hut and soon reach the glacier. Passing a steep bergschrund and traversing the south wall couloir, we reach the shoulder at dawn. In delightful climbing, we climb pitch by pitch until we stand on the Schreckhorn at 4,078 m above sea level! Here the traverse truly begins. The climb along the ridge to the Lauteraarhorn is technically demanding and airy. We enjoy great climbing on excellent rock up to the Lauteraarhorn at 4,042 m above sea level. After the long descent back to the Schreckhorn Hut, we end the day comfortably at the hut.
